wedding, portrait and destination wedding photographer serving Houston, Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, College Station, Bryan, Texas- Holland Photography

Who will be my photographer?

I photograph all of my weddings.  I do have a second photographer who assists me during the day.  I find working with a second photographer to be an invaluable commodity.  Not only does a second photographer offer back up to all of the important moments during your wedding day (equipment can fail at the wrong moment) but a second photographer also offers a different angle and point of view of your wedding.

How would you describe your style?

Some people may refer to my work as “photojournalistic” or “documentary” in style.  I don’t classify my self per se, but I do work in an unobtrusive, unposed and natural way.  I prefer to photograph your wedding as it unfolds as opposed to directing it in the way that I think it should go.  My formal session is the only time I pose photographs and even then I work quickly and I pose the subjects naturally.

How do you coordinate the formals?

I prefer to do the majority of the formals approximately an hour and a half before the ceremony begins.  I respect the fact that many couples prefer not to see one another before the ceremony and I work around that.  I normally start with the bride’s side first (family, attendants, special guests) and then I do the groom’s side afterwards (family, attendants, special guests).  After the ceremony, I will work with the couple together and set up the shots that have been requested.  I prefer to do some before the wedding ceremony so we can quickly finish the formals after the wedding ceremony and get to the reception.  After the ceremony, I am sure you are ready and excited to spend time with your new spouse, family and friends and the last thing you want it is to be held up at the church with the photographer. How do we retain your services?

I require a $375.00 non-refundable retainer to hold the wedding date.  The final balance is due 2 weeks before the actual wedding date.  You are welcome to make payments towards your wedding balance throughout the year if you prefer.

How many photographs do you typically take?

Although I guarantee 40 images per hour, I typically take between 500-1000 photographs per 8 hour wedding.

How long will my proofs take?

Typically 2-3 weeks.  During some busier times they can take up to 4 weeks.

Do I get to keep all the proofs?

Absolutely, the proofs are yours to keep!

What are high resolution digital files?

These are unretouched high resolution files suitable for printing.  You will be able to make your own reprints up to 8x12 with these.  I have found that most of my clients prefer to order larger retouched/ art worked reprints from me, but like having the ease and convenience of making smaller gift reprints for family and friends.

Why do some photographers refuse to give away negatives/digital files?

There is much controversy regarding giving away negatives/ digital files to customers within the photography industry.  Some photographers do not agree with letting clients make there own reprints as it affects their profit margin and reduces quality control.  By quality control, I mean that the photographer has no way knowing if the images being printed by someone else accurately depicts the true integrity of the photographer's work.  I understand their point of view, but I have decided to release the files anyways.  My business model is not based on reprint sales nor do I feel my reputation will be jeopardized if a print is reprinted imperfectly.  I think my friendly working relationship and flexibility with my clients will be the final determination of my reputation.

Who owns the copyright?

I own the copyright to all of the images I have taken.  I do release printable files for personal usage (reprints) but the copyright stays with me.

What is a web gallery?

This is basically a password protected online gallery of your entire portrait session or wedding day.  It is an easy way for you to share your portrait or wedding photographs with family and friends everywhere.

What kind of equipment do you use?

I still shoot with some film (high speed black and white) but I primarily shoot with Canon professional digital cameras and equipment.  Some people still have reservations regarding the quality of digital photography.  Digital photographs have the same quality if not higher then traditional film photographs.  Digital photographs also offer the exact same color permanency and archival quality of traditional film prints.  If you have any questions regarding digital photography please contact me for further information.

Do you carry back up equipment?

Of course!  I carry multiples of everything -camera bodies, lenses, lighting, etc.

Do you travel?

Yes, my office is located in College Station, Texas but I will gladly travel to Austin, Dallas, Houston and it’s surrounding areas free of charge.  Out of state and destination weddings may require a travel charge.  Please inquire if you have any questions regarding travel costs to your location.

Most of my weddings and clients are from Houston and the surrounding areas.  Setting up appointments and portrait sessions in the Houston area will be no problem.  Meetings and portrait sessions in Austin and Dallas are a little more difficult to arrange so please inquire and I will try to work something out that is fair.
